3.5 Years to FIRE – A Motivated Day

NEO Shūkatsu – Living Well and Meaningfully

I had no idea where to start writing, so I figured I’d share what one of my “surprisingly motivated days” looks like lately.

Recently, my “motivated days,” “can’t-be-bothered workdays,” and “weekend moods” have all started to feel a bit different. Johnny (that’s me), who’s somehow getting closer to FIRE, will explain how all this happened… eventually.

Of course, I wasn’t always like this. I used to be the pro-level procrastinator type with tragically low efficiency. Truly inspiring stuff.

Morning Start & Afternoon Swim

6 a.m. — I woke up smoothly for once. A clear sign today might actually be a win.

After coffee, I glanced at my car and thought, “Wow, that’s… dirty.” So I started washing it. Finishing one task in the morning makes the whole day feel a little lighter.

Work from 9 a.m. Pretty normal. But thinking about my afternoon swim practice kept the spirits mildly elevated.

At lunch, I headed straight to the sports club. Lots of familiar faces, quick small talk, and once practice starts — full focus mode.

When I’m swimming, all the mental noise disappears. It’s like my brain switches to silent mode. Then ten minutes in the sauna for a tiny reset moment.

Night: “Do Just One Thing” Time

At night, after dinner and cleanup, it becomes my “Do just one item from the to-do list” time.

Cleaning, reading, researching something — anything works. I like the feeling of “moving forward, even just one step.” It’s kind of like the modern version of minimal end-of-life planning: using your time properly, now.

Tonight I整理記事ideas. Set a one-hour timer… added extra time because I got into it.

Two hours later: wow, I had way too many ideas saved up.

Checked off today’s achievement, had a small drink, watched some TV, and went to bed thinking, “Yeah, today wasn’t bad at all.”

Will I be motivated again tomorrow? No idea.
But today was good — and honestly, that’s enough.

I’m not fluent in English, but I really wanted to share this story.
So I tried my best using translation tools to write this post.
If you find anything that sounds strange, unnatural, or offensive,
please let me know in the comments.
I’ll check it carefully, translate your feedback, and fix it.
Thank you for reading!
