A Holiday Called “Zero Motivation Day”

NEO Shūkatsu – Living Well and Meaningfully

Since this blog is still in its pre-open phase, I want to write down some recent everyday moments… and this time, it’s about a day when I had absolutely no motivation.

I wasn’t feeling sick, I wasn’t hungover, but somehow… the “switch” was nowhere to be found. Even though it was my precious day off.

This day was the complete opposite of the valuable two-day break I wrote about before.
“One day off × Zero motivation.”

The Feeling of Being Already Done From the Morning

The night before, I already had a bad feeling. Not even a fragment of motivation was showing up.

Then I went to bed without setting an alarm, and when I woke up… it was 9 AM.

To make it worse, I even fell back asleep—a rare second nap. I felt a little guilty, but half-gave up and thought, “Ah, today’s going to be that kind of day.”

I brewed some coffee, ate breakfast while watching a recorded drama, and even though the weather outside was amazing, I had zero desire to go out.

I mean, the idea of “leaving the house” didn’t even come to mind.

When I opened social media, my feed was full of “Morning run!”, “Morning productivity!”, “Made great progress!”—so bright it felt brighter than the sun.

Meanwhile, I was experiencing the phenomenon of “time evaporating just from watching videos.”

Before I knew it, the morning was over. Fast. Time had passed at 200 km/h despite me doing absolutely nothing.

Cracking Open a Beer at Noon: The Confirmed Route

I opened my To-Do list, but my body wouldn’t move at all.

Then suddenly… *psshh*—a beer opens.

The moment that sound echoed, I knew: “Ah, today’s done.”

At that point, the holiday had officially entered the “nothingness route.”

The Redemption Cleaning Challenge (Instantly Failed)

In the afternoon, feeling a tiny bit guilty, I pulled out the vacuum cleaner. But the moment I extended the cord, my motivation disappeared.

I could hear the commentator in my head: “Aaand that’s the end! Today’s cleaning corner closes in zero seconds!”

I grabbed another beer. At that point, I had fully accepted defeat.

Eventually I took a nap, woke up at sunset, took a bath… and that was the end of the day.

“What did I even do today…?”
I wondered for a second, but honestly—some days are just like that.

The Mystery of Motivated Days vs. Zero-Energy Days

It’s not like I was tired, but somehow the switch just wouldn’t turn on.

Recently, I’ve been telling myself that “a do-nothing day is important too,” but…

Even now, I still have no idea where the motivation switch is located.

Where do they sell that thing, anyway?
