I Seriously Calculated This: “How Much Would This Cost If I Bought Everything New?”

Boat Fishing

I got that ¥150,000 “god-tier” set on Jimoty.

…And then a thought crossed my mind.

“Wait. How much would this cost if I bought everything brand new?”

Once that question appears, there’s no escape.
So I did what any normal person would do:
I researched the market prices for a hypothetical brand-new full setup.

※ Rough market averages around 2019. Prices vary by brand and timing.

What Counts as a “Full Set” (New)

  • Inflatable boat
  • 2HP outboard motor
  • Dolly (transport cart)
  • Fish finder
  • Oars / paddles
  • Rod holders & flag
  • Anchor + sea anchor
  • Slow jigging setup (rod, reel, lures)

“Looking at it calmly… yeah, that’s a lot.”

Estimated New Prices by Item

Item Low-End Price Mid to High-End Price
Inflatable boat (2–3 person) ≈ ¥80,000 ¥250,000–¥350,000
(Domestic brands, hard floors, etc.)
2HP outboard motor ≈ ¥110,000 ¥150,000–¥160,000
Dolly ≈ ¥10,000 ¥20,000–¥30,000
Fish finder ≈ ¥20,000
(Small portable model)
¥100,000–¥250,000
(High-performance models)
Oars / paddles ≈ ¥5,000 ¥15,000–¥20,000
Rod holders & flag ≈ ¥5,000 ¥10,000–¥15,000
Anchor / sea anchor ≈ ¥10,000 ¥15,000–¥20,000
Slow jigging setup ≈ ¥20,000 ¥60,000–¥80,000

So… What’s the Total?

Adding up those ranges, roughly speaking…

  • Low-end configuration
    Absolute minimum setup:
    Around ¥250,000–¥350,000
  • Mid to high-quality configuration
    Mixing brand-name and high-performance gear:
    ¥400,000–¥700,000+ is entirely possible

“…That’s… just straight-up expensive.”

Comparing It to the Jimoty God Set

Item Price
Jimoty god-tier set ¥150,000
Brand-new full set (low-end) ¥250,000–¥350,000
Difference ≈ ¥100,000–¥250,000

Buying everything new means
“paying an extra ¥100,000–¥250,000 in exchange for warranties.”

How to Keep Costs Reasonable

  • “All brand new” gets expensive immediately
  • Items other than the boat and engine can often be bought used
  • Amazon time sales and Rakuten Super Sales are objectively good
  • At the beginning, focus only on what you truly need

Conclusion

  • If buying new, be prepared for at least the high ¥200,000s
  • A well-maintained used set can cut costs by nearly half
  • For me:
“Used god-tier set → upgrade only what’s necessary later”
    was the optimal choice

Looking back with this price context,
that ¥150,000 set really was abnormal.

A miracle purchase.
I still believe that.
